I think that the "price" debate in its current form isn't very helpful.although it is a given that there won't be a fully autonomous "campaign" as was in the mentioned M1TP2 for a variety of reasons. There is now an Operations Editor that allows to create mission trees that may branch, loop, and merge.Of course, it is impossible to know in advance.

I think that the price of the software is quite relative long-term users have probably found more entertainment per dollar with Steel Beasts than with any other form of entertainment. We have many users who have been playing Steel Beasts for seven years straight (some even since the year 2000). We set the price for the one-year license ($39.50) so that it will be about the same cost as the "eternal" license for $115.- after about seven years of continuous usage, taking into account that the eternal license must be upgraded for a price while the time based license is always valid for any version since 3.0. After a month you should at least get a first impression whether this might be something for you or whether you expected something entirely different. Like others pointed out, the cheapest way to take a sample is the single month license ($9.50). I would not necessary claim that each of these has a super-high entertainment value, but if in a simulation at least a part of the entertainment comes out of the learning experience then maybe this isn't such a bad thing after all. Then there are about 375 tutorial, gunnery range, and Instant Action scenarios. Add to that 206 scenarios for single player that are currently available for download on the fan site (I can't vouch for the quality of each of them, but there are many that are quite good). Aside from the tutorials there are, depending on how you count, either 51 unique scenarios, or 82 unique and derivative scenarios, or more than 130 if you take into account a few that have so much randomization that they will play quite differently every time, depending on the roll of the dice. I think that Steel Beasts has quite a bit to offer for a single player experience.
